Open Skies 1.5 – Part 3

Part 3
RELEASE THE BEAST

There is no better place than here
There is no better time than now
We have lived our lives for what? we don’t know
But today we take a vow

The chorus gets louder, reaching Razor’s ears just as he bends down to sign the agreement. He pauses for a moment and, without signing, he stands back up, listening as the song gets even louder still. The other eleven also stop what they’re doing and listen.

We’ll stand our ground with Will
O’er wind and rain and earth
To protect our Father’s seed evermore
And to Freedom give birth

As the song reaches completion, all twelve are absolutely dumbstruck. Through gritted teeth, Razor whispers to himself “Derek…”, tightens his grip on the quill pen, and suddenly…

*FWOOSH!*

he throws the pen clear across the room,

*PING!*

its path ending right in the middle of Marion’s forehead. Holding his right fist up in the air, Razor exclaims, “O’er wind and rain and earth?! More like o’er WAR and FAMINE and PLAGUE!”

“RAZOR!” Marion shouts in a panic. The pen in his forehead bounces and twangs maniacally as he steps forward, “RAZOR! DON’T!”

It was too late. Razor’s rage, his only real power (a power that had since the beginning awarded him the deepest fear and respect from the other eleven), had already reached critical mass. This was it. This was why he was made – a ticking time bomb, engineered to go off only at the height of the purest rage. Was this too soon? Only De could know, but he was, as we all know, nowhere to be found.

And now, raising his voice to the heavens, Razor commands, “RELEASE THE BEAST!”
