Day 375

The room was especially quiet tonight. The cats were outside. Derek was still at work. Sky, partially undressed, found herself sitting next to the bed, thinking out loud:

“Hold on, I’m coming for you. Just keep holding on…” He thought I was asleep that night, when he whispered those words into my ear… into my soul… He said them in such an uncharacteristically somber tone that they have never left my mind, not even for a second.

Parallel to this (and unseen by Sky), in the world of dreams, the humanesque cat from her recurring dreams, cries out:

Oh Derek!
The days pass by so casually!
Weeks drift away
Youth leaving just as quickly as you swept me off my feet
Melting like ice on a summer sidewalk

It’s all empty
Meaningless
Pointless

Without you…

Sky thinks out loud again:

“Just keep holding on…” What was he talking about? Here we are, haven’t spent a night apart in over a year… And yet knowing this, still a part of me seems to find solace in those words… words which forever echo in the caverns of my being… filling me with a profound sense of wonder… expectation… … hope…

The cat again cries out, this time in song¹:
