Open Skies 1.5 – Part 5

Part 5
A PLAGUE ON BOTH YOUR HOUSES

Day 1

At Razor’s command, the clouds part, making way for a great beam of light which comes piercing through the skies, down to the earth, where it meets a sidewalk right between two houses, breaking through, burning a hole straight down to the center of the earth. The two homeowners are working in their respective yards, unaware of what is going on here in the world of will.

The beam of light subsides as the sky darkens. Clouds black as night fill the sky with an impressive display of lightning. The top of a Trojan helmet emerges from the hole – Antideon, the greatest warrior the earth has ever seen, yet never mentioned in history; an ancient will from the very beginnings of earth, come again in a Trojan warrior. Murdered in his sleep by a Greek spy, he swore to one day have his revenge on all of mankind. Word of his threat spread like wildfire and was so feared that all of Troy and Greece vowed to never again mention his name. And so after a generation, he was completely forgotten.

As he reaches the top of the hole, Antideon cries out, “Beast?! Who are you calling a beast?!” He stands up straight now, and has a few good stretches.

Of course, the homeowners, still oblivious to what’s happening here in the world of will, continue their yard work.

Antideon calls his horses by name, “WAR, FAMINE, PLAGUE! BRING ME MY CHARIOT! THE TIME HAS COME!” As his horses take their slow descent from the skies, Antideon begins his monologue in all directions:

A plague on all your endless theorems
That lead you round in circles
A plague on your dollar menu
Fast food miracles!

A plague on your discompassionate self-sufficiency
Self-centered, self-loathing, love-deficiency!

A plague on your pining
Over every little thing
As the darkness in your heart
Is breaking every child’s wings!

Come, dry hearts, burn in the fire!

Who will fill the emptiness in your heart
when you were so unwilling to fill another’s?!
Who will give his life to save your soul
when you were so unwilling to give your own?!

A plague on your air, your water, and your bread!
Come locusts! Have your long-awaited meal!
At last our day has arrived!
Tonight, we feast!

He boards his chariot, looks around, and for the first time noticing the two men in their yards, he adds,

A plague on both your houses!

“Yah!” He cracks the whip. They take off and disappear into the darkness. Daylight returns. The homeowners are still working in their yards.
