IN THE ARMS OF THE ANGEL
Sky looks up at Derek, “Sometimes… I think this is too good to be real… that I must be dreaming or something…”
Derek smiles.
Lying on the couch together like this is the only real escape that Sky has seemed to find in a long time. An escape from that inner sadness, that inner loneliness and helplessness that seemed to plague her even in such youth.
The animals of their minds have grown since last we saw them, still so young but at that age where they would first start slowly learning to fend for themselves.
Sky, only inches away from Derek’s face, “And you know, sometimes I wonder what it would be like to kiss you.”
The reason for Derek’s shocked bashfulness is apparent as he responds, “I’ve never kissed anyone before… I mean, not a for real kiss…” He looks down from her eyes.
Without further hesitation, Sky kisses him.
And Derek kisses back.
For several brief moments it is as though the entire world has disappeared, and it is only the two of them, happy, secure, together.
As they end their first kiss, music begins and they look at each other, laying together in silence. And the young cat sings to herself, in no particular direction1:
PlaySpend all your time waiting
For that second chance
For a break that would make it okay
There’s always some reason
To feel not good enough
And it’s hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
Oh a beautiful release
Memories seep from my veins
Let me be empty
And weightless and maybe
I’ll find some peace tonightIn the arms of the angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You’re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort hereSo tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
There’s vultures and thieves at your back
The storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don’t make no difference
Escaping one last time
It’s easier to believe in this sweet madness
Oh this glorious sadness that brings me to my kneesIn the arms of the angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You’re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
You’re in the arms of the angel
May you find some comfort here
