SCENE 6

[Stage is same as Scene 2. Eagle is perched on a branch in a tree next to the water. Moose, Randall, and Cage enter stage left. They don’t notice Eagle since he’s in a tree.]

Moose: Well I guess I’ll go first again…

[Moose picks up a run slowly but surely and enters the river. As he is struggling:]

Eagle: [Laughs loudly] What are you doing? There aren’t any fish over there, I’ve already checked!

[Everyone looks up and sees Eagle.]

Moose/Randall/Cage: Eagle! [They all run toward him.]

Randall: Eagle, you’re okay!

Eagle: [smiling] … … Say.. I’m starving! There aren’t any fish here, do you guys know where I could find some food?

Moose: Of course! We set up our camp right over there. [pointing to barn] We have plenty of food there, we’d love for you to stay with us for a while if you want.

Eagle: Of course I will. Lead the way.

[They all walk off together. Stage should be able to change into inside of barn rather quickly here with only Sarah inside, keeping herself busy with chores or something, she has to have her back toward the door. Enter Randall, Moose, Cage, and then Eagle.]

Sarah: [after Randall enters, she turns her head to look and turning back around she talks to them] Hey guys.

Randall: Hey Sarah.

[Sarah turns her head slightly when talking but never all the way around so she doesn’t actually look at everyone and doesn’t know Eagle is back.]

Sarah: How goes it?

Moose: We’re good. How goes it with you?

Sarah: Same ol’ same ol’ here. Just taking it one day at a time, although much harder today since the news we heard last night…

Moose: Oh… about Eagle….

[Eagle sits down quietly. Randall, Moose and Cage look at each other, holding back laughs.]

Randall: We’re all still torn up about it too.

Cage: And those waters aren’t getting any easier to figure out… [holding back laughs] … Our future’s looking rather bleak…

Sarah: [turning around] I know guys, but we’ve got to keep our h— [sees Eagle] OHMAGOD! [briefly faints and falls flat on the ground, and immediately picks herself back up while everyone else cracks up… She throws her arms around Eagle.] EAGLE!

Eagle: Sarah.

Sarah: Eagle, I can’t believe it! You’re here! You’re actually here! [looking at Randall, Cage, and Moose] That was cruel what you guys did!

Randall/Moose/Cage: [mischievous] What?

Sarah: You know what! [to Cage:] Don’t you play innocent, youngling!

Cage: [laughs]

Randall: [to Eagle] Let’s get you some food!

Sarah: Oh, what do you want? We’ve got some bread, some fish, some fresh–

Eagle: Whatever’s easiest for you is fine.

[Sarah gets him some bread and some juice. Lipped conversations and silent laughing go on while he eats.]

Sarah: [smiling to herself, thinking aloud] [Aside:] We’re gonna be alright after all…
