Part 10
THE VIRGIN QUEEN
10,000 Years Ago
Amongst the six who were to be happy for man was one they call Maihiri. Given the power to instill life, she commands the life of every being on the planet. Not a single first breath has ever been taken without her word. Shortly after they had all returned to watch and war over Earth, she heard a female voice calling her name.
“Maihiri… Maihiri…”
Maihiri followed the soft voice.
“Maihiri… Please… come to me…”
And so Maihiri quickened her pace over rivers and fields and mountains, until she came upon the source of the voice. It was a small mountain village, the homes of which were built into the mountain itself. She heard the voice again,
“Yes… you are here, please come in…”
So she entered the home where the voice had been coming from to find a young lady, beautiful in every respect.
“Hello, Maihiri. My name is Crisis. Your father has told me all about you.”
Excitedly, “My father?! Where is he?!”
“He was just here. I’m not sure where he went… He explained everything to me, but he said that he would not see you or the others.”
“Why?”
“He wouldn’t say why.”
“How is it that you know my father?”
“I’ve known your father since the beginning of our race several million years ago… (I ‘m much older than I look…) The daughter of the first man and woman of Earth, I was often referred to by my brothers and sisters as the ‘Virgin Queen’. I wasn’t interested in marriage… but then… I met De… Shortly after I met him, he explained to me everything about himself and the birth of the world and you twelve. He felt concern from all of you over the developing will of us humans, so he came here to get a closer look. He showed himself to some, but not to others. He and I were, and are still, madly in love. He granted me eternal youth and beauty, unless ever I wished otherwise in which case I would have but to ask. And so, he would come and go, while I lived out lives as different ladies in different places and different times. I learned to avoid the cities after a while since it would often become a violent endeavor to avoid the men who couldn’t understand why I was always single! Smaller villages seemed to provide me a more peaceful and quiet environment in between De’s visits.”
“I wonder why he hid all of this from us…”
“I don’t know, but I’m sure there is a reason.”
“Yes… I am sure. So how is it that I can help you today?”
“It is his wish and mine that I carry his child.”
“I understand… Your wish is granted. Regrettably, I must be getting back to business now. I am glad to have met you, Crisis… It will be a boy.”
“Oh thank you, Maihiri, I hope to see you again some day! Goodbye!”
